John Van Bolderen


John is a nationally recognised expert in land law, and has held a selection of senior government appointments connected with this field. 

After graduating from the University of Canterbury, in 1980 he joined the South Auckland Land Registry as legal officer to the District Land Registrar. In 1984, John was appointed District Land Registrar, Registrar of Deeds, District Registrar of Companies and Assistant Registrar of Incorporated Societies for Southland. In 1996, he became District Land Registrar and Registrar of Deeds for Otago and Southland, and in 1997 was acting District Land Registrar for Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and Westland. In 2002, John was appointed Senior Advisor to the Registrar General of Land. 

Since joining the firm in 2005, John has been involved with a number of complex subdivisions, adverse possession claims, Crown and reserve land easements and advice on conveyancing matters.

A director of Boundary Solutions Limited, John is a regular guest lecturer at the Otago Survey School on land title and its relationship to survey.

John enjoys playing bowls and is a member of the Opoho Bowling Club. He is also involved in the administration of the club.
